Cleaning up grammatical errors, misspellings, punctuation misuses, and incorrect or awkward word choices are critical elements of editing. More subtle aspects include noticing and suggesting alternatives for awkward wording, ambiguous phrasing, biases, inappropriate tone or style, lack of flow, internal contradictions, and wordiness. After sweating over multiple drafts, even the best of writers can lose perspective and objectivity. Professional, trained eyes connected to a mind attuned to the nuances of language are always worth the investment.

While I will edit most genres on almost any topic, my specialty is environmental communications and academic documents, including theses and dissertations, papers for refereed journals, and book manuscripts. I will tailor my services to your needs, editing your manuscript on any of the following levels:

I work with writers in a variety of genres:

Rates
Editing rates depend on a variety of factors, include topic, word count, complexity, quality, and the editing tasks required. The speed of editing can range widely, depending on the length, type, and quality of the manuscript. Before proceeding with a project, therefore, I provide the client with an accurate estimate based on an assessment of the document.
My rate for stylistic and copy editing generally falls between $6 and $8 per page (a page is approximately 1,800 characters).
I accept payment in cash or cheque.
In a rush? If I can fit it in, I’ll work to a rush deadline at a higher rate.
